New Electric Bikes for 2016

Ridgeback Electron+

Ridgeback Electron+ EBike

We have quietly been selling Electric Bikes at our shop in Ripon for the past 3 years. As a northern showroom for Volt Electric Bikes we found a niche in the growing market. We have always worked well with Volt and together we helped promote the opportunities that EBikes create. The health benefits for the older generation or less able are unquestionable with many customers seeing the purchase of an electric bike as a breath of fresh air.

In 2015 Shimano released what we believe to be the next progression in Ebike technology, their Steps integrated system.

From Shimano Steps website, '

The launch of SHIMANO STEPS brings a new level of integrated design, seamless operation and effortless performance to e-bikes. Shimano has specialised in cycle components since it was founded almost 100 years ago – the company’s very first product was a bicycle freewheel, in 1921. Shimano knows bikes. Who better to power your e-bike?

SHIMANO STEPS is a system built around a frame-mounted drive unit. By integrating the drive unit around the bottom bracket area, the weight is positioned low in the frame for easier handling. The essential electronics are incorporated in the drive unit, making for a reliable and weatherproof system. The SHIMANO STEPS system is light weight, has a large capacity lithium-ion battery pack and an intelligent power management system. It will bring you further than ever before. It’s this kind of thinking that sets SHIMANO STEPS apart'.

Ridgeback took the opportunity to use Steps on their Electron and Electron+ Ebikes and we have taken delivery of a demo model, the Electron+. The main difference between the 2 bikes is the gear system, the Electron+ is equipped with an Alfine 8 Speed Hub gear and hydraulic disc brakes, the Electron a slightly more basic Nexus 7 Speed Hub gear and conventional rim V-brakes.

The first thing you notice about the Electron+ is the power, the Steps system introduces the power in a smooth curve. The bike is well thought out with the battery integrated into the rear carrying rack and the Etube wiring run internally through the frame. The lights are part of the system and controlled from the main power switch on the handlebars. The Steps Computer head unit is very clear and gives detail of the power mode, range and battery condition.

The Electron+ is available now, please call us if you would like to book a demonstration.
