Nicolai Frames

Lovingly made, in Germany by obsessive framebuilders. Have you ever wanted something alittle bit different to your mates Santa Cruz Blur. A frame that you didn't have to replace the pivot bearings every 6 months? A Nicolai is what you need, possibly the most perfectly constructed frames on the planet, your wish is their command.

We've been supplying Nicolai frames for three and half years now and we've been absolutely stunned by what we have seen. Every frame is perfect, the welds, the alignment, the finish and the facing, even the packaging is a work of art.

Suspension bikes suffer mainly from dodgy pivot bearings and misalignment, causing accelerated shock bush and pivot bearing ware. Not with a Nicolai, the pivot bearings are adjustable needle rollers and in our time with Nicolai we've only replaced the bearings on one 3 year old frame. We've also never replaced a shock mount bush, due to the perfect alignment of the rear triangle and pivots on the suspension frames, an awesome testament to the workmanship.

Colours started off as black and bronze anodized, our original Helius CC demo bike was black ano and our first customers played safe, but a revolution is happening. Some brave people ordered colours, even camo finishes and were rewarded with some really original bikes. Matts, glosses, camos, the Nicolai paintshop will produce anything. Check out our Custom Build pages, the white Helius FR and camo Helius Fr really are stunning. In case you worry about paint finishs, well they really are awesomely tough finishs, none of your flaky paint, this paint is stuck like glue.

2007 really was the year of the Helius FR, our demo bike worked hard and helped generate our best year with Nicolai to date. For 2008 the Helius FR has had a facelift and a slight frame alteration. Karl has given all the frames what he has called 'Extra Love', and the industrial look of the bikes, love it or hate it, is now more subtle. Attention to detail is the key for 2008 with some frames receiving a machined headtube and headtube badge and machined model names.

After the success of the 2007 demo bike, we've decided to get ourselves another Helius FR. The frame's on order at the factory complete with an order for Urban Dizzy Camo, it's going to look awesome with white Marzocchi 55s and DT Swiss EX1750 wheels.

Nicolai tweaked the Argon CC in 2006 and brought us the Argon FR, the perfect UK hardtail trail bike. Incredibly tough and offering enough travel to accomodate the new generation of 130-140mm suspension forks, this really is an awesome frame. Versatile and multi use, trail bike, cross country, even use it as a singlespeed jump bike, it will cover most bases.

For the big boys out there Nicolai really come into their own. 2008 sees the introduction of a new flagship downhill frame. Known as the Ion ST, it will replace the retired M-Pire ST and offer 8.8" travel using the classic Horst link technology used in the other frames.

Rohloff has been around for some time, much touted as the future for bikes. 14 internal hub gears, Sturmey Archer for the 21st century. Nicolai have a long history of collaboration with Rohloff, fellow Germans, and bike tinkerers. Nicolai make most of their frames compatible with the Rohloff system, deep dropouts and double cable guides. Well the development has moved on, and shortly Nicolai will launch GBOXX 2 equipped bikes. Information is scarce at the moment but we will update when we know more.
