Moonglu Custom Built Bikes
Perhaps our biggest success since the start of Moonglu has been our custom built bikes. What started with a couple of Kinesis mountain hardtail builds has snowballed into a real success story for the shop. We now build bespoke specced bikes from two of the most reputable and high quality frame builders, Nicolai and Lynskey.
Both brands build frames at different ends of the spectrum, Nicolai handmade aluminium mountain bike frames in their small workshop in Germany and Lynskey hand made titanium road, mountain and cyclocross frames in their small workshop in Chattanooga, USA. Despite their diverse offerings, they share some key ethos, a highly trained, very skilled workforce, passionate about every frame they make to fabulous attention to detail.
Custom Builds aren’t a walk through the door, choose a bike, pay and walk out item, they require much more customer contact. In most instances, we find a personal approach to the buying experience benefits both the customer and the shop through positive feedback. Many of our Custom Built Bikes have been sold to existing customers who have exceeding the capabilities of their existing bikes and want something that little bit special, but likewise there are lots of clients that we have never even met. Rapports have been built by either phone or email and ultimately we have built a bike to suit their needs and sent it by courier.
Moonglu Custom Built bikes aren’t just about full builds either. Due to some of the bespoke nature of some of the frames we supply, particularly Nicolai, we are equally at ease speccing a frame only or part build. The options lists for a Nicolai frame alone allows the customer to purchase a frame that it built by hand, to a bespoke specification, then painted in a colour of their choice. We have sold 50+ Nicolai frames since we started our relationship with the brand, some as frame only, some as full builds but each frame is individual.
