The third age of Moonglu has begun. Established in August 2002 on the premises of a previous bike shop. Moonglu was set up by Mark Swindells and Jody Hamilton before Mark handed over to Neil Dunkley in November 2002. This prosperous partnership continued until November 2007 when Jody left the business to try his hand at MTB Holidays in the Czech Republic.

Now under the sole ownership of Neil, the shop continues to maintain its friendly personal atmosphere. We continue to supply the Marin, Kona and Giant bikes that we started with in 2002. Mark continues to work two days a week and is an integral member of the small team which now includes Sam Watts, our newest member of staff. Sam comes to Moonglu with 3 years experience at Boneshakers in Harrogate.

One of our strengths over recent years have been our Custom Builds. Started early on by Jody and Mark, custom built Kinesis Maxlites and early Santa Cruz Blurs still reappear in our workshop, still showing the durability, value for money and individuality that was originally envisaged. With the evolution of our website, word of mouth and one very niche German brand called Nicolai, Moonglu Custom builds have become our major success story. Please visit our Custom Build pages for a few examples of the many builds that we have completed. We now supply builds from manufacturers such as Nicolai, Intense, Cove, Litespeed, Giant and Kona, each individual, each catering for individual customer requirements.

Mark originally based his reputation on strong customer service and we still feel that the basis for our Custom Builds must be good customer service. We do go to great lengths to ensure customer satisfaction, not only for our custom builds but for all our customers. We'll always do our best to ensure you walk away happy and whilst you may catch us on the very occasional bad day, please give us a chance because we do value everyones custom from a replacement inner tube to a £4000 custom build.

Whilst it's true that expensive Custom Builds are great for business, it must be said that from speaking to people, the perception of the shop has been somewhat elitist. This is something i'd like to work on in the future. We do stock bikes of many styles and prices, from entry level mountain bikes and hybrid from £200 right through to our money no object Custom bikes. Our pet hate are new bikes that aren't fit to be on the road and trust me walk around a kids toy shop that sounds like a dinosaur, and these bikes really aren't fit to be on the road and who in their shop is qualified to assemble the bikes correctly. Our entry level bikes may be slightly more expensive than the ones sold not 200 yards away, but i can guarantee that they will be correctly put together, will be lighter and last way longer.
