Cycle repairs and servicing in Yorkshire
Regular servicing and maintenance of your bike protects the life of your bike’s components and helps you achieve optimum cycling performance and safety.
Moonglu are an independent bike shop in Ripon, North Yorkshire. We operate a busy Shimano Service Centre accredited bike repair and service workshop. Our staff have a wealth of repair knowledge and with over 26 years combined experience and a well equipped workshop we are well positioned to deal with any bike related repair and servicing work.
We are equipped to carry out all types of mountain bike and road bike related repair and service, we are not restricted by brand or style of bike. Some of the services we provide are published below.
Regular Service – £30 + VAT + Parts
Our most common workshop task, the Regular Service involves:
- An initial assessment of the bike
- Checking and adjustment of the gear system including a chain wear check
- Checking and adjustment of the brakes
- Lubrication of chain, moving mechanical parts and cables
- Wheel truing and tyre inflation
- Hub checking and adjustment
- Headset checking and adjustment
- A complete checkover of any other bolted component including handlebars, stems and seatpost
- Recommendations for further work
During the course of our Regular Service we may encounter parts that are worn and may need replacement. In most circumstances we will seek customer approval for further work. Any further work will be carried out on a pro-rata time charge basis over and above the regular service.
Full Service – £90 + VAT + Parts
We do list a full bike service in our workshop prices. The full service involves a full bike strip down and re-assembly. With modern bikes the requirement for a full service is very rare. The closest that we usually get to the cost of a full service is an extension of a Regular Service where we may run up lots of time servicing suspension frames and suspension parts.
Fork Servicing
Our workshop staff are very experienced at servicing modern suspension forks, particularly Fox Forks. We have received in house training from Mojo Suspension, the UK service and repair centre for Fox Suspension products and together with a wealth of servicing and repair experience we are well equipped to work on these forks. In most cases, regular servicing work is carried out in our workshop, we only outsource to Mojo where specialist parts are required.
Fork Servicing Costs including labour, seals and fork oil:
- Fox 32mm – £65
- Fox 34mm – £65
- Fox 36mm – £75
- Fox 40mm – £80
We can service SRAM Rock Shox forks, Magura 32mm and 35mm suspension forks and some Marzocchi forks. Please call us in advance on 01765 601106 to check our stock of service parts, particular fork seals for Rock Shox, Magura and Marzocchi forks. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to carry out service or repair work on pre SRAM Rock Shox, Pace or Manitou suspension forks.
Rear Shock Servicing
Our workshop is equipped to carry out air can service work on Fox Float series rear shocks. These include the Float R, RP2, RP23 and DHX Air shocks. More than 90% of modern full suspension bikes are equipped with a Fox Air shock and an annual service can keep these shocks running smoothly for years.
Fox Air Shock Servicing Costs including labour, seals and suspension fluids:
- Loose shock – £35
- In bike – £45
In the circumstance where the shock is damaged we may have to send the shock to Mojo for further parts and labour. We will always consult the owner and make them aware of any further costs before sending off suspension parts.
Hub and Wheel Servicing
We have experienced most types of hubs over the years, from simple cup and cone hubs right through to Hope, DT Swiss and Chris King, we have worked on most of them. We carry most of the spares needed to rebuild any Hope hub from the original titanium XC through to the current Pro 2 Evo. Our technical experience also extends to the inner workings of hub gears including the Shimano Alfine and Rohloff Speedhub and we carry cleaning and lubricating oils for the Speedhub.
We have a vast array of spokes with lengths from 230 up to 300mm and our wheelbuilder can repair most wheels where spokes are broken or damaged.
Our prices for hub repair work are published instore, for anything specific please call the shop for costs.
Booking your bike in for repair
Moonglu operate a booking in policy for workshop repairs. Repairs and services are booked in on a daily basis and on most occasions the work is carried out and the bike made ready for collection on the same day. During peak season our repair waiting list can extend for up to 2 weeks in advance. In these circumstances it will not be possible to carry out ad-hoc work, we cannot just drop everything for everyone. We hate letting down customers, so if you really are in a desperate bike related situation please call us in advance. Prior warning and even some biscuits will definitely soften us up.
If you would like to book in a bike for repair, please contact us either by phone on 01765 601106 or by email: info@moonglu.com.
